  • Matauri Bay (20 mins)

Walking

A number of nearby walks including:

  • Mahinepua Peninsular (photo left) (10 mins) Our favourite!
  • Rainbow Warrior Memorial (20 mins)
  • Whangaroa harbour and St Pauls Rock (10 mins)
  • Totara North – the Dukes Nose (25 mins)

Golf

  • A number of nearby 18 hole golf courses which include:  
  • Whangaroa GC where Kit & Monique are both members (25 mins)
  • Kauri Cliffs GC – exclusive & expensive (20 mins)
  • Kerikeri – Bay of Islands GC (45 mins)
  • Waitangi GC (60 mins)
  • Carrington Estate GC (60 mins)

Eat & drink 

Local options nearby include: 

  • Us in the main house!, 
  • the Fishing Club in Whangaroa (15 mins)
  • The Indian in Kaeo (15 mins). Kerikeri & Mangonoui have a great selection of cafes & restaurants. 

There are a number of nearby wineries most of which offer interesting food options and these include:

  • Marsden Estate (Kerikeri),
  • Omata Estate - photo left (Russell), 
  • Paroa Bay (Russell), 
  • Dancing Petrel (Mangonoui)

Further afield 

  • Cape Reinga – well worth a trip but about a 2 hour drive, 
  • Kerikeri – a thriving town with lots to do and see
  • Mangonui – an interesting boutique style harbour with galleries, cafes and famous fish & chip restaurant
  • Oponui on the west coast but worth a visit particularly if linked to a trip to Waipoua Forest – home to the largest & oldest kauri tree in New Zealand
